his year’s Brau promises to be bigger and
better than ever before. With some of the
leading names in brewing wandering the
halls, including Boston Beer’s founder and
managing director Jim Koch as keynote speaker at
the exhibition’s opening ceremony, visitors will be
given an insight into the most important trends
and developments affecting the industry.
This year’s event will centre on the culture of craft
brewing, the roots of which are closely linked
to Germany’s brewing industry. Andrea Kalrait,
director of exhibitions at Brau Beviale, said that
the choice of theme reflected a desire to bring the
worldwide craft movement to the “home of beer.”
Visitors can do everything from sampling different
hop varieties at the Barth-Haas Tasting to voting
for their top beer in the Consumers’ Favourite
category in the European Beer Star competition.
This year’s opening ceremony on Tuesday 11th
November will comprise two parts. The first will
be a keynote speech from Boston Beer’s Greg Koch.
Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs
and Energy, Gabriel Sigmar will also be on hand
to present the German Packaging Prize for the
best and most innovative solutions in the
Boston Beer’s Koch and Charlie Papazian,
founder and president of the Association of
Brewers and the Great American Beer Festival,
will be among the well-known names presenting
at this year’s Forum Brau Beviale (Hall 1, Stand
350). The forum will cover current packaging
innovations and developments and challenges in
the beverage industry, with topics ranging from
sustainability, energy, export, brand experience
and water/waste water to training in the brewery
and beverage sector.
EUROPEAN BEER STAR
Attracting a record number of participants this
year, the 11th European Beer Star competition is
one of the most prestigious events in the industry’s
calendar. Visitors to the Craft Beer Lounge will be
able to blind-taste and judge the gold, silver and
bronze medal winners from each category of beer,
selected by an international panel of experts in
Munich last month. The Consumers’ Favourite 2014
for gold, silver and bronze will be announced along
with the European Beer Star winners on Thursday
12th November at 4pm at the Craft Beer Corner,
Hall 9 Stand 450.
BARTH-HAAS TASTING 2014
Visitors can experience what hop aroma and flavour
can add to a beer at the Barth-Haas Group’s tasting
session. A range of special hop compositions will be
on show at the session, as well as the hop variety
‘Relax’. The tastings will be held daily at 11am and
2pm in NCC Ost, Room Istanbul.

Brau Beviale is the annual crossroads of the brewing industry. Nuremberg
is where you come to greet old friends, make new ones, and perhaps do
more than a little business. This year’s event is no exception, with a crowd of
around 1,300 exhibitors and 33,000 visitors expected. Taking on the theme
of the Culture of Craft Brewing, visitors can learn about the latest cutting
edge developments in technology, logistics and marketing, and even sample
some of the newest products.
Make sure you have packed your business cards,
as this is the ideal chance to talk and compare
notes with industry experts at each of the stands,
and even make some new contacts. Among the

Brau is a stage where exhibitors like to impress
with what’s new and innovative. Then there’s detail
aplenty concerning the latest offerings from other
key industry suppliers – and some newer players
who are becoming better known in the market.
Brewers’ Guardian publisher Larry Nelson will be
on hand for the entirety of Brau and then some
and looks forward to, as this story’s intro suggests,
greeting old friends and making new ones.
