Home' Brewers Guardian Digital Magazine : November 2012 Contents There will be information aplenty. Exhibitors will include
suppliers of everything from raw materials to brewing
technology, and from logistics solutions to marketing
ideas. Efficient use of resources will be a key theme
this year, say the organisers.
As for the family atmosphere, it's hard to imagine any other
business event on this scale with such an informal feel. From
the opportunity to chat to the experts manning the stands to
the chance to compare notes while voting for your top brew in
the Consumers' Favourite category in the European Beer Star
competition, this is one event you really need to pack your busi-
ness cards for.
With so much to see and do, and so many people to meet, you
need to be organised. Following is our list of the key suppliers,
including stand numbers and details of products being launched
at Brau. And, while in the past, you might have been able to use
'I was too busy' as an excuse for not picking up souvenirs to take
home to the family, those days are over. See overleaf for our sug-
gestions of the best shopping spots in Nuremberg, for everything
from local gingerbread to German rock CDs.
We look forward to seeing you there -- a day earlier than usual
-- for what promises to be another excellent Brau Beviale.
The organisers are expecting some 1,400 exhibitors -- and 32,000 visitors -- to attend Brau
Beviale this year. But don't let the scale of the event deceive you. The team behind the exhibition
says it has a 'professional family atmosphere', meaning that between 13th and 15th November,
you can expect to divide your time between gathering information and chatting to contacts, both
old and new -- including the Brewers' Guardian team, Larry Nelson and Tara Craig
DON T MISS THESE
This year's ceremony will take place at 9.30am on Tuesday 13th
November, in NCC Mitte, Level 1, Munich Hall. The Bavarian
Beer Medal will be presented by Gerhard Ilgenfritz, president of
the Private Brewers of Bavaria, who will also welcome visitors
to Brau Beviale. He will be joined by Horst Förther, mayor of the
city of Nuremberg. Following the ceremony, visitors are invited
to take part in a guided tour of the exhibition.
Once again, visitors will have the opportunity to spend time in a
pavilion dedicated to Energy & Water (Hall 7A Stand 200), where
they can speak to vendors and service providers about sustain-
ability and potential cost savings in energy and water. Visitors
interested in innovation and what the future holds for brewing
should head to the Future Beverage Industry 20XX pavilion (Hall
7A, Stand 203 & Stand 309), where companies will present their
new ideas on everything from sales to software and logistics.
Visitors to the Exhibitors' Forum (Hall 4A Stand 517) can hear
from exhibitors on everything from new technologies to market
trends. Topics this year include effective cleaning techniques,
beer pumps and how to ensure raw materials are clean. Each
lecture lasts 20 minutes, and visitors can attend without regis-
tering in advance, although it should be noted that most of the
lectures will be in German, without translation.
European Beer Star
Launched in 2004, this is now Europe's largest competition,
and visitors to the opening day of Brau Beviale 2012 can blind-
taste the gold medal-winning beers before choosing their own
favourite. The Consumers' Favourites -- the gold, silver and
bronze medal-winning brews -- along with the European Beer
Star winners, will be announced at 4pm on Wednesday 14th
October, in NCC Mitte, Level 1, Munich Hall.
Barth-Haas Tasting 2012
Visitors to Brau are invited to the Barth-Haas Group's tasting ses-
sions, which will focus this year on what a single hop variety can
do to beer -- with the emphasis on the comparison between whirl-
pool hopping and dry hopping. The beers involved have been
made with hops from the United States, Australia and Germany.
The tastings will take place in NCC Mitte, Level 1, Milan Hall.
